    Looks like newer Altec equipment...

Thought I'd put it up here to get some insight.

That looks like a lot of iron in those racks. Most likely, there is AC regulation and filtering, also. Maybe a recorder and some other interfaces? Six of them, bring a truck.

Have you purchased from the GSA auctions and, if so, how easy/hard a process is it? At first glance, it appears to be a really good place to find some bargains.

Yes, I have won a couple GSA auctions. Their web site has been improved. But since it is really a nation-wide auction site....some government sellers take pictures better than others...and some descriptions are better than others. Some set unrealistic minimum bids IMO. Others are cheap.

Auctions are entirely online....to me a plus point.

Easy to register and bid...plus point.

But no shipping, you have to go get your won items.

Some good deals to be had. But as one NASA employee told me, (when you could still go to a live auction) "the days of picking stuff up for a dollar are over.)

I picked up a beautiful late 1950's Altec VOTT with a 288B driver and 805 horn a couple months ago from the auditorium of a VA Hospital in NY State.

There was a very nice vintage Altec rack with a couple tube amps and a bunch of mixers and power supplies...auctioned off here in DC...I think the price got to around $750.

I was looking through the auctions in my region and there are a lot of electronic items for sale. It appears the US Govt. bought items to be reliable as most is quality brand stuff.
As you mention, descriptions are terse and the pictures are lacking. I would have really liked to know the drivability of that 21/2 ton 6x6 fire truck with 10000 miles. Wouldn't the wife have loved that parked in the drive, lol?

Ha Ha....yes that would be a LOT of truck to park in the driveway! Agreed the descriptions are horrible....most of the times not even a model number. And like you say, grainy photos.

    But always fun to surf...

There were about a dozen enormous ship propellers down in Norfolk VA. last month or so. Each one was around 50 thousand pounds and about 17 feet in diameter. I figured the total weight at about 750 thousand pounds of various types of ship bronze. The "scrap" auctions have some real pros bidding. I think they went for about $1.47 per pound.
